Everyday patients come in talking about “the bug that’s going around” or how “everyone at work is sick” and “hope they don’t get it”. Beyond regular chiropractic care, and daily Vitamin D supplementation, Silver Sol can help supercharge your immune system and keep you healthy this winter. Silver Sol is a broad spectrum antimicrobial that aids our immune system by reducing the bacteria, viruses, and molds we encounter. Under a U.S patent, Silver Sol has been shown to destroy 143 types of bacteria, both forms of viruses, molds, yeast and some parasites, as well as being able to purify water. It functions as a non-toxic disinfectant that can be used internally and externally. The use of Silver as a disinfectant has existed for many years. Silver lined pots for water purification were used by Greeks Many people are familiar with colloidal silver products, they have existed for decades. Early settlers put Silver dollars in their milk and water jugs to prevent sickness. Medically it is used topically, but has been injected, and used orally. It is very prominent in the area of wound healing. It is also known that Silver tipped catheters produce fewer bladder infections. There are three ways that Silver Sol works. When the Silver Oxide particle comes in contact with a bacteria, it will remove an electron from the bacterial membrane, rupturing it in the process. The healthy bacteria in our gut is unaffected because it has an outer protective coating. Secondly, the Silver particle resonates at the same frequency as germicidal lights used in labs to kill viruses and bacteria. Thirdly Silver Sol prevents viral replication by magnetically binding to incomplete viral genetic material. Our normal DNA does not contain a charge and is not affected by the Silver particle. Used as a preventative barrier, Silver Sol gives you an invisible barrier that will kill most of what you come in contact with, leaving your immune system to work on more important battles. I use the gel on my hands because, unlike alcohol based sanitizers that only kill what you came in contact with, Silver Sol remains active for up to four hours. I also apply it to my face and in my nostrils, to protect against airborne pathogens. We carry both the liquid and gel forms of Silver Sol, from American Biotech Labs If you want to learn more about Silver Sol and it’s many uses check out silversol.info If you are traveling this winter, I highly recommend packing a tube of gel, and enjoying your holiday.

As we begin 2013, I want to thank the great patients at Chiropractic Life Centre for making my transition into the practice an easy one. One never knows what to expect, being the “new guy”, but you have all done your part to make me feel welcome. I also want to thank all my patients that made the transition from Nassau. Thank you for trusting me to guide your health care and education. This year, instead of making resolutions, I want to encourage you to set goals. Creating goals provides your life with purpose and direction. Goals also allow you to focus on the future and reviewing them can fill you with excitement and motivation. Important areas to focus on are; Career, Financial, Spiritual, Physical, Mental, Family, Personal Relationships, “things you want to do”, “things you want to have”, “things you want to be”, and Feelings. Start by deciding to set a goal, identify your goal from any of the categories mentioned. Write it in positive terms, as if it is already achieved, for example, “I weigh a lean, 175 pounds”. Make it quantifiable, and as detailed as possible, then review your goal daily. It needs to be believable, to be achievable. This will get you started. A simple goal might be walking 30 minutes 3-5 times a week. Research shows not only a reduction in cardiac risk factors but benefits have been noted with insomnia, depression, diabetes, and dementia, to name a few. We are planning several events to give you the tools to further enhance your quality of life and to share with others, in 2013. Start with a goal, and get ready for a life changing year.
By now you have no doubt heard of the many benefits of vitamin D, and how our bodies make it from exposure to the sun. However, with summer fast approaching, don’t be misled to rely solely on the sun for adequate amounts. We’ll discuss that shortly but first, let’s review how vitamin D benefits us and how our body uses it. Two types of vitamin D exist, D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol). D3 is more biologically active and the form that experts recommend. It comes from animal fats, fish oil, and eggs. D2 is synthetic and derived from plants, and made active by irradiation. D2 is also less biologically active. Vitamin D3 is involved in more than 2000 human genes. Most notably the gene responsible for cathelicidin production, a natural, broad-spectrum antibiotic, and why cold and flu season occurs during our darkest months of the year. Vitamin D deficiency is also implicated in MS, cancer, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, dementia, and many other chronic disease conditions. It is estimated that vitamin D deficiency is responsible for nearly 1 million deaths, worldwide, per year. The vitamin D produced by exposing our body to the sun’s UV-B rays is quickly converted into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, or D3. Many factors like, season, skin pigmentation, latitude, altitude, percentage of exposed skin surface can all affect how much D3 is produced. Unfortunately, UV-B is what burns our skin, from overexposure to the sun. Using a sunscreen protects us from burning but it also greatly diminishes or blocks vitamin D production. This becomes a complex balance between getting enough sun exposure to benefit and not too much to harm. When we get a burn omega 6 fats can be converted to cancer causing molecules, this does not happen with omega 3 fats. The best way to know if you are getting adequate levels of vitamin D is to get checked. The recommended test is 25(OH)D or 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the optimal health range is 50-70 ng/ml or 125-175 nmol/litre. For decades 400 iu was the recommended daily amount, with the knowledge and current research into vitamin D that amount is closer to 2500 iu for children and 5000 iu per day for adults. The only way, to know if you are getting enough, is to get your blood tested. For several years I have recommended vitamin D and omega 3 to my patients. If you work indoors, or wear sunscreen during the summer months you are likely deficient and supplementation is your best option. We carry two very high quality products from http://innatechoice.com/ , Naturally occurring D3 and Omega Sufficiency. The benefits are too great to pass up, start by having your blood tested, then begin a supplementation plan based on your needs.
